Connecting
Meditation is all about connecting. Connecting to Self. Connecting to Life.
Child birth is the same. It is about connecting to your self, to your body, to your baby - and bringing forth new life.
When we disconnect - most often through fear, we feel out of control; and the fear increases. It becomes a vicious cycle.
One of the most beneficial ways to prepare for childbirth is by learning how to remain connected and focused. Meditation allows you to develop this capacity.
Twenty years ago, as a Breathwork practitioner, I was asked by a client to help her birth her third child. After two rather traumatic births she wanted this third child to be born easily and naturally. I was surprised and honored by the request, since I was not a midwife, nor a doula. "I figure what you know about breathing will help me get through it". she said. And so it did. She had a beautiful baby girl - naturally and easily. Although not without pain, but her ability to stay connected and focused on her own body, the process and her baby allowed her to guide herself through it.
